From May 8, 2026, FedEx passes the DAFF Document Assessment Fee to customers for Australia imports <=AUD 1,000 subject to biosecurity assessment. Fee is AUD 40 per 15 minutes per DAFF officer. Affected categories: plants, edible products, animal products, artwork, timber. Shipments not linked to a billable FedEx account also incur a Duty Tax Handling Fee of 2.9% of duty/taxes or AUD 20 (whichever is higher).

【Impact for cross-border e-commerce sellers shipping from Japan】Sellers shipping food, plant-based or animal-derived goods to Australia should budget for DAFF fees. Even shipments under AUD 1,000 are affected.
